In 1957, the founder of EDO & CO., the late Taiji Inouye(1914-1986) established his antique shop at just across the street of the main entrance of the FUJIYA HOTEL, Japan's oldest Western style resort hotel located in Hakone where Japan's the most famous scenic and hot springs spot near from the Tokyo metropolitan area. The founder, Taiji Inouye gave EDO & CO., had been an exotic spot for various travelers from all over the world who might be ale to be enjoyed with the essence of oriental exoticas and exoticism atmospheres exploring into his shop's oriental experiences. Such as an American famous author,Mr. James A. Michener (1907– 1997) was one of Taiji Inouye's great client and Mr. Michener made his big collection of the Japanese Ukiyo-E at last. Thence, EDO & CO., descended by his wife, Mrs. Aiko Inouye and her shop has been nothing changed of it's location status since the establishment of 1960. Particularly, the Miyanoshita area where EDO & CO., belonged has remained well of Japan's something nostalgic and good-old-days odour on the every street corners.
EDO & CO., mainly deal with famous Ko-Imari Ware, 'Makie' Japanese lacquer ware, Ivory carvings, original Japanese old wood block prints, and the other oriental works of arts and crafts.
